Govt swings into action after stray string kills man

–CM orders Lahore police to submit report, says cops will be held responsible in case of kite ban violation

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has directed authorities concerned to crack down on kite sellers amid after a stray kite string claimed the life of a 40-year-old man in the provincial capital.

It may be noted here that the number of people dying due to kite-related incidents has witnessed an increase due to repeated violations of the ban on kite flying and related activities. As per the ban, kite flying and selling can lead up to three years imprisonment in addition to fines.

In Lahore, at least three people have lost their lives in Oct after coming into contact with a stray string. Meanwhile, the incident of kite-related deaths were also reported in other cases.

Taking note of the death of a 40-year-old man, CM Buzdar on Sunday ordered the Lahore CCPO to submit an immediate report on the matter.

Acting on the chief minister’s orders, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) dismissed SHO Mudassar Ullah and ordered SSP Mughalpura to complete investigations into the incident and submit a report on the matter. Buzdar said that local police would be held responsible wherever people were found to be violating the ban on kite-flying.

Meanwhile, police have arrested three kite sellers and seized over 300 kites and dozens of string rolls from their possession.
