The Punjab government has granted permission to the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) to hold a conference to celebrate 12th Rabiul Awal and express solidarity with the people of occupied Kashmir at Minar-e-Pakistan, according to a media report.

Reports said that the government did not give written approval to the party to hold the conference but verbal approval was given. The decision to allow the TLP to hold a conference in Lahore is seen as a move to avoid further turmoil as opposition parties’ ongoing sit-in in the federal capital is already creating problems for the government.

This will be the TLP’s first major congregation after its involvement in the protest against blasphemy accused Asia Bibi’s acquittal last year.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the Deputy Commissioner’s office has denied that permission to hold conference at Minar-e-Pakistan was given to the party.

However, TLP District Ameer Mufti Abid Raza Qadri has said that matters related to the conference were resolved after successful talks with the government. He said that the government had tried to shift the venue but had later agreed.
