Opposition wants to take revenge over defeat at polls, says Sarwar

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar on Saturday said that the purpose of opposition’s protest was to take revenge from people of their defeat in general elections.

The Punjab governor said that opposition’s criticism on national institutions including Pakistan Army has exposed their agenda, adding that Prime Minister Imran Khan would never give resignation as he was elected by the people of Pakistan. The opposition’s attempt to create instability and unrest in the country would be foiled, he maintained.

He said this while talking to representatives of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) from various districts including MNA Riaz Fatyana, MPA Sadia Sohail and others at Governor House here.

Ch Sarwar said that opposition has violated the terms of agreement after announcement of sit-in but the government still wanted to resolve all issued through dialogue, adding that if opposition wanted the resignation of the prime minister by protest or sit-in, they would never succeed as the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan would complete its constitutional tenure.

He said that the Army has rendered great sacrifices in very difficult times including war against terrorism but unfortunately the opposition was criticizing national institutions only to achieve political ends.

Governor Sarwar added that the government believed in supremacy of law and the constitution, accountability, and welfare of the people, and would continue to serve masses and bring progress and prosperity in the country.
