4 more people die of dengue fever in Karachi

KARACHI: Dengue fever has claimed four more lives in Karachi city in a day at two different branches of same private hospital, taking the death toll from this mosquito-borne disease to 26 since Jan 01, 2019.

A 82-year old man, Sarfraz Hussain, resident of DHA Phase-1, was shifted to a private hospital situated in Clifton a few days ago with dengue-related complications where he died during treatment on Tuesday.

Similarly, a 35-year old woman Afshan Asif, resident of Gulbahar No 2 area of Karachi was brought to the same hospital a couple of day ago with fever where she was diagnosed dengue. The woman died due to dengue-related complications, confirmed spokesman of private hospital.

However, spokesman Prevention and Control Program for Dengue (PCPD) Sindh, while talking to PPI, confirmed death of two women in a private hospital situated in North Karachi.  A 57–year-old woman Gulnar Begum and a 50-year-old Saeeda died of dengue fever in this private hospital. They were residents of North Karachi and Nazimabad, respectively.

A total 26 people have died due to dengue viral fever in private and public sector hospitals of Karachi city this year so far.

Separately, 225 more dengue cases surfaced in Karachi in last 24 hours.

In Sindh, as many as 247 more dengue fever cases emerged across the Sindh province in last 24 hours, out of which 225 were detected in Karachi and 22 in other districts.

In October, a total of 5,490 dengue positive cases were detected across the province out of which 5,137 were confirmed from Karachi and 353 from other districts.

In 2019, a total of 8,707 dengue cases were detected in Sindh province so far out of which, 8,181 happened in Karachi and 526 in other districts.
