ISLAMABAD: Leader of the House in the Senate Shibli Faraz on Monday said it seems that Maulana Fazlur Rehman is looking for an excuse to be arrested so he can ‘become a hero’, but this plan of his won’t yield any success as the government has no intention of detaining the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief.
“Maulana wants to be restrained so he can become a hero. The government does not want to give Maulana so much importance by arresting him,” he said while talking to media.
“No one will be allowed to take the law into his hands or derail law and order situation in the country,” Faraz added.
“Cancellation of a meeting between Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and the JUI-F delegation has unveiled the cracks in the opposition parties,” the senator said
The upcoming ‘Azadi March’ is destined to fail as the government enjoys complete support of masses, Maulana should plan beforehand that what would he do once his plan fails, he said.
“Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s politics will end if the sit-in fails,” Faraz told media.
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday had constituted a seven-member team under Defence Minister Pervez Khattak to engage the JUI-F and other opposition parties ahead of their planned march. However, the JUI-F chief on Saturday had given a go-ahead to his party’s secretary-general and Senator Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri to meet the Senate chairman, who, as a member of the government negotiating team, had contacted him over the telephone and sought a meeting.
Again, on Sunday, JUI-F stopped his party’s delegation from meeting Sanjrani and said that the final decision regarding talks with the government will be made by the opposition’s collective Rehbar Committee.
The Rehbar Committee, having a representation of all major opposition parties, will meet on Monday at the Islamabad residence of its convener, JUI-F leader Akram Khan Durrani. In this meeting, it will be decided whether talks should be constituted with the government delegation or not.
