KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday demanded that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to immediately step down from his post in light of “a very difficult situation” that was developing in the country.
While speaking to reporters in Rawalpindi, the PPP leader publically expressed his support for Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s ‘Azadi March’ against the government, claiming that he would go as far as entering the battlefield with the Jamiat Ulema-e Islam- Fazl (JUI-F) leader if needed.
Criticising the ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for arresting JUI-F leaders a few days ahead of the protest march, Bilawal said that the action seemed to be taken in vested interests.
“In its tenure, the Pakistan Peoples Party never stopped anyone from protesting. We found out a political solution to the long march and sit-in in our tenure. These people are not political, but puppets. Imran Khan will have to go,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that the Azadi March is being will begin on October 27 and is planning to enter the federal capital on October 31.
The march, which aims to topple Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government, would include multiple opposition parties that would enter Islamabad together via the GT Road.
Fazl has been trying to take all the opposition parties on-board with regard to the march. The PPP has so far been reluctant to join it, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has said that it would participate in the anti-government protest in Islamabad.
The government has also formed a committee to negotiate with the JUI-F. It is headed by Defence Minister Pervez Khattak.
However, the two sides have not yet held any formal negotiations.
