Star-studded three-day Asma Jahangir conference on Friday

AGHS Legal Aid Cell in collaboration with the Pakistan Bar Council has organised a three-day Asma Jahangir Conference at Avari Hotel from 9 am to 6 pm, starting on Friday.

Multiple sessions will be held on women’s and children’s rights, religious and ethnic minorities’ rights, rule of law, strengthening of democratic institutions, opportunities and challenges for women in the legal profession, and the state’s responsibility to protect fundamental rights of its citizens, including freedom of expression.

European Union Ambassador HE Androulla Kaminara, Human Rights Ambassador of Kingdom of The Netherlands HE Dr Bahia Tahzib-Lie, Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice Maleeka Bokhari, former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar, former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, BNP-M chief and former chief minister Akhtar Mengal, acting UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan Knut Otsby, Balochistan Governor Amanullah Khan Yasinzai, senior journalists Arif Nizami, Mohammed Hanif, Mehmal Sarfaraz  and others will participate in the three day event.

Last year, the theme of the moot was ‘Justice for Empowerment’ and it was attended by chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, ANP leader Afrasiab Khattak, Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari, and former speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq.
