PESHAWAR: Wheat has become costlier in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as price of refined flour has increased by Rs500 to Rs 4,500 per 85kg bag within just two days in the open market.
The price of atta (whole wheat flour) and maida (super fine flour) has been increased from the previous Rs4,000 to Rs4,500, according to price rates available from the atta market in Peshawar.
As Pakistan has resumed partial export of wheat flour related items to Afghanistan via Torkham border after about two months, atta dealers are of the opinion that the government has contributed to putting wheat crop under pressure and raising its prices and domestic demand. Besides, wheat exporters are also piling up stocks owing to better future export prospects.
Importantly, the general public in Peshawar has demanded the government to immediately control the rising inflation in the state.
Sources told the media on Monday that several countries export wheat items to Afghanistan; however Pakistan’s wheat is much better in terms of quality and cheaper than many other exporting states.
Analysts expressed fear that roti prices might increase following the government’s decision amid continuous rising prices of wheat.
