–There was no domestic staff working at the house
KARACHI: Investigators who are probing the Clifton double murder that took place on Wednesday seem to be at a loss for words as mystery continues to shroud the case.
According to the details, the bodies of 65-year-old doctor Fasih Usmani and his 22-year-old son Kamran Usmani were discovered in the bedrooms of their house located in Clifton’s Block IV area when the deceased doctor’s wife Mrs Afia returned home after a morning walk.
It is pertinent to mention here that the area where the crime took place is considered to be highly secure.
So far, at least five people have been taken into custody for interrogation.
On Friday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Tariq Dharijo and his team had visited the house to collect evidence and speak to Dr Usmani’s widow.
In her statement to the police, Mrs Afia said that she had left for morning walk alone at 06:00 am. and found the bodies of her husband and son when she returned at around 8:10 am. At 8.40 am, she called the police to inform them of the incident.
Speaking to the media, police said that they were trying to ascertain how the murderer entered the room which was locked from inside as there was also no hint of a struggle which the attackers could have faced while breaking the locks. The slain were apparently asleep when they were attacked.
Furthermore, nothing was missing from the house.
The police said Faseeh Usmani had a heated exchange with a family that was staying at the upper floor of their house some time ago; however, investigators believe the incident seemed unlikely to be a motive for a double murder.
They were also looking into the unpaid rent of a shop owned by the deceased at Tauhid Commercial Street. In total, the shopkeeper owed Rs1.2 million in rent to the family but had paid a portion of the amount, therefore, the possibility of his involvement in a serious crime like a double murder was also ruled out.
The family had sacked their housemaid since they used to visit the United States and was running the household without a watchman or a maid since then.
Interestingly, the body of the younger victim was found naked but Mrs Afia told police that her son was habitual of sleeping undressed, saying that there was nothing unusual about it.
Police were also clueless in finding out why Kamran Usmani was stabbed 14 times with a sharp-edged weapon while his father Fasih Usmani received only four stab wounds.
