NAB chief requested for re-issuance of Qaimkhani’s arrest warrant

KARACHI: A formal request for re-issuance of the arrest warrants of the former director-general of parks and horticulture of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Liaquat Qaimkhani was sent for approval to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Tuesday.

According to details, authorities have decided to interrogate Qaimkhani, who is already under the custody of Bureau, regarding ownership of luxury cars and expensive plots.

NAB had arrested Qaimkhani in Bagh Ibne Qasim scam on Sept 19.

“NAB Rawalpindi arrested Liaqat Ali Khan Qaimkhani, ex-DG parks, and horticulture, KMC, in Bagh Ibne Qasim scam,” a spokesperson had said at the time.

The anti-graft body seized eight vehicles, arms, property files, jewelry and official records of the KMC from his custody. NAB sources said that the eight recovered vehicles were luxury ones and the weapons sophisticated ones.

Sources revealed that in 20 years of the service, Qaimkhani had built 71 ghosts parks which existed only in the documents and formed fake companies for allegedly illegitimate financial practices.

Moreover, documents of seven bungalows in Karachi and Lahore were also found from his home during a search. Original files of the KMC were also seized from the held suspect’s home.
