Abbasi’s lawyers allowed to meet him in jail on Wednesdays

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Thursday fixed Wednesday for the legal team of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to meet him in jail for consultations.

AC-I Judge Muhammad Bashir announced the judgment on a petition, filed by Khaqan Abbasi’s sister Barrister Sadia Abbasi, seeking court permission to hold meetings with the accused.

The petitioner had stated in the plea that the court had already fixed ‘Friday’ for the family members of the accused to meet him in jail and that it was difficult for lawyers to meet Abbasi on the same day.

She urged the court to fix a separate day for Abbasi’s lawyers to meet him for legal consultations.

Assistant Jail Superintendent Adeel appeared before the court and said that lawyers could meet the accused every Wednesday for to which the court accepted the request of the petitioner.

Abbasi is being held at Adiala Jail on judicial remand in an investigation pertaining to the LNG import agreement case. Former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail was also arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the same case.
