Foolproof security to be provided to Pak-Lanka cricket matches: IGP

LAHORE: Inspector General Police, Punjab, Capt (r) Arif Nawaz Khan said on Wednesday the Punjab police would provide foolproof security to Sri Lankan team players and officials visiting Pakistan for the Sri Lanka tour of Pakistan 2019.

Addressing a high-level meeting here at Central Police Office, he told officers that daily life should not in any way be disrupted by the security arrangements and change of traffic management.

He further directed officers that close monitoring of hotels, stadiums, and routes of teams be conducted by safe city cameras, whereas, snipers be deputed on rooftops of buildings situated on the route through which the Sri Lankan team would be traveling.

He directed CCPO Lahore and other senior officers to inspect security arrangements and brief deputed officials.

A detailed discussion regarding security of Pak-Sri Lanka matches at Qaddafi stadium was also discussed during the session.

In the meeting, CCPO Lahore BA Nasir assured the IGP that security arrangements along the lines of those employed during the PSL (Pakistan Super League) matches would be implemented.

The IGP said that an uninterrupted and efficient plan of patrolling by Dolphin, Peru and other patrolling forces should be devised and monitoring officers at the safe city head office should keep field officers and officials fully updated. He further said that search, sweep and combing operations should be conducted at Ferozewala, Band Road, Slums, Bus Stations, Hotels and Inns for security arrangements and if resources are required regarding security measures then central police office should be contacted immediately.
