PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Shaukat Yosafzai said that attempts to use the religion card by JUI-F leader Maulana Fazl ur Rehman will not be tolerated by the government.

Speaking at a joint press conference alongside Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Central Information Secretary Ahmed Jawad, the KP minister said, “In Pakistan our religion, `Islam’ faces no danger as claimed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and any such statements are aimed at exploiting people’s sentiments only.”

“Pakistan was created in the name of Islam and our religion is no need of protection,” Yosafzai reiterated, adding, “The lukewarm response of opposition parties’ leadership to the Maulana efforts is reflective of the fact that any such attempt will result in complete failure,” he added

“The Maulana is least concerned with any issue of national importance and is only interested in obtaining power,” said Yousafzai.

Central Secretary Information Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Ahmed Jawad said that the proposed Azadi March called by Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad has failed to receive the support of other opposition parties and will most likely result in failure.

He said that opposition parties are not extending support to JUI(F)’ call chief because of their involvement in corruption.

“The whole plan of lockdown is aimed at protecting their own survival which is now at risk due to exposure of their corrupt practices,” he continued.

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has been voted by the people on the pledge of carrying out `accountability’ and therefore those involved in corruption would be taken to task.

Yosafzai said that cases filed against opposition party leaders were prepared by themselves against each other and the PTI government has not filed a new case against anyone.
