LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Friday said that the provincial government has approved immediate establishment of Child Protection Bureau (CPB) in Kasur following the inhumane incident took place in Chunian.
Talking to reporters during a visit to the affected families in Chunian, Buzdar announced that Kasur is being linked with Lahore’s Safe City programme besides establishment of Child Protection Bureau (CPB) to avoid such incidents in future.
The chief minister also announced Rs5 million prize money for information regarding the culprits behind the Chunian incident.
“We are here to condole with the affected families of Chunian. The provincial government immediately issued instructions after the incident and is carrying out action against the concerned officers besides releasing charge sheet. We will go to all extents to stop occurrence of such incidents,” he said.
Buzdar said that the government will not tolerate black sheep in Punjab Police, adding that the provincial authorities will not post the suspended officers again after the emergence of public complaints.
He said that the government has constituted a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) comprising competent officers, adding that Dolphin Force personnel would also be deployed in Chunian to ensure protection of citizens.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister summoned an emergency meeting at the Lahore airport soon after his arrival from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah. Punjab Inspector General Police (IGP) Capt. retired Arif Nawaz Khan briefed the emergency meeting upon development in the case.
Buzdar rebuked the authorities while noting that such incidents occur due to the ineligibility of police which did not ensure timely release of the abducted children by not adopting the latest ways of interrogation.
“The intensity of the grief can only be realized by those who have lost their kids and it is my responsibility to provide justice to the affected families,” he noted.
Buzdar maintained that suspension of police officials is not enough and they must be terminated for not performing their duties.
“The traditional system of a special branch needs to be strengthened further and emergency steps are required to improve police force,” he affirmed.
