Governor announces PAPA board after year’s delay

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Tuesday announced names of the chairman, board members and office-bearers of the Punjab Aab-E-Pak Authority (PAPA).

Governor Sarwar made the announcement after the delay of nearly one year, which he acknowledged and apologised for.

“I apologise over the unnecessary delay in starting the clean drinking water project,” said the governor adding that those responsible for not allowing provision to clean drinking water will have strict action taken against them.

“Two years of jail imprisonment along with fines in millions and other punishments would be awarded to the violators,” said the governor.

Governor Sarwar further said that they had also been compiling a record of all government and private filtration plants in Punjab to check the quality of water being provided by them.

General ( r ) Ahmad Nawaz Saleem Mela would be the chairman of Punjab Aab-E-Pak Authority (PAPA), Housing and Public Health Secretary Nasim Sadiq would be the chief executive officer of the authority, Gohar Ijaz will be the head of the Central PAPA and would also head of the HR department, Mian Talat Mahmood would be head of the finance committee, Rabia Zia would head of PAPA North, while also looking after social media operations.  Faisal Mukhtar would be head of PAPA South while Khurram Mukhtar would be in charge of the procurement committee.

Secretary Local government Syed Waseem Raza, P&DP Secretary Naseem Sadiq would also be appointed to the board.

After making the announcement, the Governor assured that corruption would not be tolerated in the project.

“I assure you that it will be a corruption-free project,” said Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar.
