LAHORE – Responding to critics questioning his place in the side after Sharjeel Khan’s impending return to the national team, left-handed opener Imam-ul-Haq said the opening slot of the Pakistan cricket team was a two-horse race.
“And I am a durable horse,” reiterated Imam, in an exclusive interview with The Dependent, where he refused to even entertain the possibility that he could be replaced.
“Just because my uncle is no longer the chief selector does not mean that I am no longer the chief opener. You know my average is,” said Imam, finishing that sentence by revealing his batting average up to the 19th decimal position.
“In any case, the opening position will be a two-horse race – between me, myself and I. Okay I know those are three, but you get the sentiment,” he added.
Imam-ul-Haq further maintained that not only was he the best opening batsman in Pakistan, he is one of the best in the world as well.
“I’m the dark horse of international cricket,” he said. “Just ask anyone in my family who they think will be the best batsman in the world in the next couple of years. If you ask my immediate family, they will tell you who the best batsman in the world is even now.”
