ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri on Saturday announced his retirement from politics and from the chairmanship of his party.

“I am retiring from politics and the chairmanship of PAT,” Qadri said in a video message on social media. “It was owing to our efforts that the accountability process began and the corrupt mafia was brought to justice.”

“We put all our efforts into bringing an end to unethical practices in politics.”

“My political struggle only accounts for 10 per cent of my overall work,” Qadri said. “We have focused on eradicating illiteracy from Pakistan and formed 5000 educational institutions around the country.”

“It was through the efforts of the PAT that people were made aware Articles 62 and 63,” he added.

“The people killed in Model Town were the martyrs of our movement for whom we launched a three-month protest in Islamabad,” he asserted.

“People who could never be arrested were brought to justice because of our movement, now it is up to the newly elected government to ensure that accountability is carried out,” Qadri continued.

He added that he now wants to direct his energies on his writings and academic work.

“I am retiring from politics due to health issues and handing over power to the Supreme Council,” he concluded.
