STRASBOURG: The European Parliament will debate the ongoing crisis in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) including the horrible conditions in which residents of the valley have been forced to live after the abrogation of article 370 by Modi-led government. The human rights violation by Indian forces have directed the attention of many foreign countries and they have expressed concerns over the deteriorating conditions in the valley.

A detailed statement on this issue will be delivered by the European Union’s (EU) high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Federica Mogherini.

Mogherini, who is also the EU Commission’s vice president, would initiate the debate by delivering a statement on Kashmir issue and later the general assembly would debate this issue in length.

Ther Kashmir issue was first debated by the EU’s foreign ministry, the European External Action Service, on September 2 and after that, it was requested that Mogherini should take it to the EP for further debate.

Mogherini, in the debate in EP, would also urge India Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to lift the curfew and lockdown, and form a protocol which would exterminate chances of human rights violations.

On August 31, Mogherini met Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Brussels and asked for a peaceful solution of the Kashmir issue via a dialogue between Pakistan and India.
