ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to deceased party leader and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz on her first death anniversary.
In a statement, he said that she played a brief but unparalleled role in national politics. “Begum Kulsoom Nawaz challenged the tyranny of dictatorship when political bigwigs had confined themselves to their drawing rooms,” he said.
He said that it was through her struggle that Pakistan saw democracy once again. “The way a domestic woman with a passion for literature clashed with an autocratic government is unparalleled in the history of Pakistan,” he said. He added that the late PML-N leader shines bright in the constellation of great female leaders of Pakistan like Fatima Jinnah and Benazir Bhutto.
Shehbaz further said that Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was a loving mother, a faithful and supportive wife and a devoted Muslim besides an intelligent political leader.
He expressed disappointment at the way “some people targeted her even on her death bed”. Her death is a lesson for all to not let go of humanity for political scoring, he added.
