Man arrested for blackmailing, extorting money from woman

The cybercrime reporting centre (CCRC) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested a man in Lahore for harassing and blackmailing a woman through her “objectionable” photos and videos.

A case was registered against the man today under Sections 20, 21 and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) read with Section 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to a statement issued by Lahore FIA CCRC Deputy Director Chaudhry Sarfraz, a resident of Sheikhupura filed the complaint stating that his sister was a victim of blackmail and money extortion through pictures and videos which a Lahore-based man had taken without her consent during a meeting.

The victim’s brother added that the blackmailer had also stolen her phone, had already forced Rs0.3 million out of her and was now demanding another Rs0.5 million in exchange for her privacy.

“After registering the complaint, an investigation team was constituted by the deputy director of CCRC Lahore which carried out a raid and recovered two mobile phones from the suspect. One of these contained the objectionable content concerning the woman,” reads the statement.

“After recovery of alleged material and sufficient incriminating evidence, the accused person […] was arrested and recovered mobile phones were taken into custody by FIA through seizure memo,” it added.

Local media reports state that the suspect confessed to his guilt during interrogation.
