LAHORE: A sessions court on Saturday restrained police from arresting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and husband of the party’s vice president Maryam Nawaz, Capt (r) Safdar after accepting his pre-arrest bail.
Police on Thursday registered a case against Safdar and 15 other party members for assaulting police officials in the accountability court on Wednesday.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Safdar along with other PML-N workers clashed with police outside the court premises ahead of the appearance of Maryam Nawaz and her cousin Yousuf Abbas in the accountability court.
On Thursday, Safdar filed an application for pre-arrest bail stating that the FIR against him and his party workers was registered “with mala fide intention and ulterior motive”.
Additional Sessions Judge Tajammul Shahzad Chaudhary approved Safdar’s pre-arrest bail against a surety bond of Rs50,000 and told him to appear at every hearing of the case and co-operate in police investigation if and when required.
The court also sought a report from the Islampura police station where the case was initially registered.
The court adjourned the hearing until Sep 7.
