WCLA employees to become permanent after CM’s nod

–Buzdar says there would be no compromise on development projects in south Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Friday accorded approval to make the employees of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) permanent, saying this would encourage the WCLA staff to work with renewed commitment and zeal.

The chief minister also disclosed that the decision was taken in order to expand the scope of WCLA to other cities of the province and said that necessary steps were being taken in this regard.

He said that this step would help restore historic buildings in different districts to their original grandeur. This would work in promoting tourism, he added.

DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES IN SOUTH PUNJAB REVIEWED:

CM Buzdar reviewed several development schemes in districts of southern Punjab.

Speaking to the media, he said that Fort Munro would receive online booking facilities and that 18 rest houses there would be renovated. The chief minister also directed the auction of older vehicles of Tribal Area Development Authority and other departments.

The CM called for the construction of small dams for water storage in DG Khan and Fort Munro. He stressed that lining of Maneka Canal be done on priority basis and authorised the plantation of trees on the adjacent land and the construction of a separate sewerage facility.

He said that the truck body manufacturing industry would also be relocated to some other place in DG Khan and that steps would be taken for the treatment of wastewater. He also said that machinery would be provided for improving solid waste management system in the region and added that steps to improve the condition of parks were also underway.

“No compromise will be made on public welfare schemes and development schemes should be completed according to their given schedule,” he said.

The meeting was also briefed on public welfare projects and new schemes. Secretaries of irrigation, housing, sports and tourism, local bodies officials and others were present at the meeting.
