ISLAMABAD: Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Major General Nauman Zakaria on Tuesday said that the armed forces have been alerted and directed to effectively respond to any attempts of aggression by India.
In a special briefing to the National Assembly’s (NA) Standing Committee on National Security, Gen Zakaria said that the army was equipped to deal with “any unusual situation arising out of Indian misadventure”.
The DGMO and the Foreign Ministry officials briefed the lawmakers about the escalating situation in Kashmir, where unprovoked ceasefire violations were being committed by Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC).
After the session, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told reporters that Pakistan had scored a diplomatic victory at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), saying that India’s continued aggression in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) and its revocation of the territory’s autonomous status “had been criticised globally”.
The foreign minister further said that the prime minister had instructed former foreign secretary Tehmina Janjua to raise the issue of human rights violations in IOK with the Human Rights Council of the United Nations in Geneva.
Apart from the Foreign Ministry and the DGMO, the governor of Gilgit-Baltistan and the federal ministers for defense, interior, and human rights were also present at the session.
