ISLAMABAD: Leaders of various opposition parties held meetings with each other separately on Wednesday to discuss matters related to the tense situation in Kashmir.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari met Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the opposition’s strategy during this time of crisis.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Shehbaz said that both of them had decided that the opposition would express solidarity with the Kashmiris during the joint parliamentary session. He said that opposition’s Rahbar Committee would also discuss Kashmir issues among other issues in its meeting. He added that an All Parties Conference (APC) would be convened soon.
Bilawal said that both of them had discussed important issues, including the rising tensions in Kashmir, during the meeting.
Later, both leaders meet Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman separately to discuss matters of mutual interest and Kashmir issues.
On August 4, the three opposition leaders asked their party members to refrain from commenting on the failure of the no-trust vote against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani until the fact finding committee comes up with its report. They said they would review the matters in an upcoming APC and decided to meet in the following week.
In a rude shock to the joint opposition, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its allies were able to save the Senate chairman from ouster despite the opposition having a clear majority in the Upper House of parliament.
The motion supported by 64 senators fell short of three votes in the final count when only 50 votes were found to be in the favour of the motion.
