Flood warning issued as water level continues to rise in river Chenab

LAHORE: The flood control room on Friday notified that water inflow in the river Chenab has been recorded at 140,000 cusecs and emission at 120,000 cusecs which resulted in acute destruction of corn and sugarcane crops in nearby fields.

As per details, due to the rise in water level at river Chenab in Chiniot, a flood warning has been issued by the district administration for the lower areas so that timely arrangments can be made to avoid any major loss.

Section 144 has already been imposed by the administration and henceforth bathing and boating in the river is banned. Furthermore, rescue teams have set up five flood relief camps to tackle any unexpected situation.

As per sources, river Chenab is flooded after water released by India caused 55000 cusecs water to increase in five hours. The water flow in Chenab has increased to 237000 cusecs from 182000 cusecs.

National Disasters Management Authority (NDMA) alerted that medium to high-level flows are expected in the River Jhelum & Chenab and medium level flows are also expected in River Kabul and Indus. Urban Flooding is also likely in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore & Sargodha Divisions.
