KARACHI: A local court on Friday directed the police to present challan in the murder case of anchorperson Mureed Abbas on August 9.
The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case during the beginning of hearing requested the court to grant a week time to file challan in the case.
The IO told the court that challan had been sent to the higher officials for approval. He also informed the court that inquiries were underway for arresting another absconder accused Adil Zaman.
The court accepted police’s plea and granted a weeklong time to them for filing challan in the case. Later, it adjourned the hearing until August 9.
A 34-year-old man, Mureed Abbas, a private TV anchorperson, and Khizar Hayat, 45, were gunned down by a suspect Atif Zaman on July 9 over a financial dispute in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and then he attempted suicide. He was admitted to a private hospital in Clifton and is now said to be getting better from his bullet injuries.
On Thursday, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon had said that Mureed Abbas’ family was receiving threats.
Speaking to media, he had said that directives had been issued for provision of protection to the family of the deceased anchorperson.
The Karachi police chief said the police received a complaint about Abbas’ family over receiving threats, after which directions were issued for provision of necessary security to the family.
