480 Sikh pilgrims reach Pakistan

LAHORE: At least 480 Sikh pilgrims from India reached Pakistan via Wagah border on Wednesday to attend the inauguration ceremony of the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak.

A special jatha (caravan) of 480 Indian Sikh pilgrims crossed over to Pakistan through the Wagah border early morning. The Sikh pilgrims’ stay will be at Gurdwara Janam Asthan also referred to as Gurdwara Nankana Sahib for two days.

According to sources, the pilgrims would begin the celebrations in connection with Baba Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary from his birthplace in Nankana Sahib on Thursday, August 1.

Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi issued visas to the Indian Sikh Pilgrims.

A statement issued by Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi says Pakistan believes in the policy of promoting visits to religious shrines and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
