Trump gave Imran special treatment, says Zulfi

–State minister says US president rates treatment given to visiting dignitaries, gave Imran ‘AAA plus three’

Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Syed Zulfiqar Bukhari has said that US President Donald Trump gave “special treatment” to Prime Minister Imran Khan during his visit to the White House.

Talking about the premier’s visit on a local television show, the state minister said that both leaders have a lot of things in common, including their candid, straightforward way which is different from the typical behaviour one finds in politicians.

He said that the US president gave PM Imran a special tour of the White House, which included areas which are never shown to foreign dignitaries. “He personally gave us a tour of the White House, including the private living quarters. The administration staff told me that never before had Trump himself given the tour to any world leader,” he said.

Bukhari said that the one-on-one meeting between the two leaders was originally scheduled for three hours but it exceeded four hours, which lend credence to the fact that that the tour was a successful one.

Talking about PM Imran’s address to the overseas Pakistanis at the Capital One Arena, the state minister said that he had been nervous that some seats might be left vacant owing to “opposition’s propaganda” but he was surprised to see how many people showed up to give the premier a welcome which made him seem “no less than a rockstar”.

He said that the US president appreciates people who have the ability to pull large crowds. He added that Trump rates the treatment meted out to foreign dignitaries and he gave PM Imran a “triple A plus three” rating.

Talking about PM Imran’s attire during the visit, he said that he abandoned the sherwani, saying that the common man does not don a sherwani while going to work and he would not wear it since he is a representative of the people.
