IGP orders foolproof security for polio workers

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam on Monday directed all concerned police officials to provide foolproof security to polio workers during the polio campaign in Sindh Province.

According to Sindh police’s spokesperson, the IGP directed his sub-ordinates to make sure the protection of the polio workers. He directed all concerned police officials to review the security measures frequently. All the concerned SHOs were directed to make sure the safety and protection of polio teams’ workers within their respective jurisdictions.

“In the sensitive union councils, inner and outer cordon off strategy should be adopted to avoid any unpleasant situation. Besides the personnel, the commandos should be deployed for the security of polio workers,” the IGP ordered.

Moreover, the IGP also stressed the need to enhance intelligence sharing, patrolling and routine checking, particularly during the campaign.  He directed district SSPs to visit sites to facilitate the policemen deployed for the security of anti-polio teams.
