WASHINGTON:  Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor on Sunday said the army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, will visit Pentagon to have interaction with the military leadership of the United States and other related officials during his three-day visit to the US.

The army spokesperson was speaking to journalists at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington.

The army chief would be accompanied by Prime Minister Imran Khan during his meeting with President Donald Trump on Monday, said Gen Ghafoor.

The ISPR DG said that due to the immense sacrifices of the Pakistani nation, the internal security situation has “improved drastically and would improve further in the coming days”.

Speaking about ties with Afghanistan and cross-border terrorism, he said the “border control was much better after the erection of the security fence along the Pak-Afghan border”. He said “border fence will also help reduce terrorism-related incidents”.

He said the army was now focussed on the “development in Balochistan and restructuring of terrorism affected areas in coordination with the civil administration”.

He briefed the media regarding the spike in tensions with India in February early this year and the overall security situation of the country. The DG lauded the “role of media in highlighting the positive image of the country abroad”.
