–Fazl calls on Shehbaz, discusses strategy for no-confidence motion against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Saturday decided to observe a ‘National Black Day’ on July 25 to mark “the robbing of public mandate”, as it demanded the immediate release of its supreme leader Nawaz Sharif from incarceration amid reports about the authenticity of the scandalous video involving the judge who had convicted the thrice former premier on corruption charges.

The decision to hold protest rallies on July 25 was taken in the central executive committee meeting of the PML-N chaired by its president, Shehbaz Sharif. PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz also attended the meeting.

The meeting participants demanded that the ‘stolen mandate of the people’ be returned without which the national crisis would not be solved.

The PML-N top brass observed that the government had failed to deliver on all ends and was using illegal arrests of opposition leaders to keep the people distracted from the core problems.

The meeting participants said that the decisions of the “imposed selected prime minister were a product of frustration, chaos, immaturity and non-seriousness”. Frequent changes in the cabinet shows how clueless the government is about handling the situation, they added.

The CEC members said that after the endorsement of the authenticity of the video by the judge and his dismissal, the case against Nawaz Sharif held no legal grounds and stood automatically annulled. Justice delayed is justice denied, it pointed out.

The meeting identified that the illegal NAB notice against Maryam Nawaz was an effort to pressure and silence her which tried to distort and twist the law.

The meeting participants also deliberated on the strategy of no-confidence motion against the Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and to ensure support for Hasil Bazinjo. It warned that any effort to turn a clear majority of opposition in the Senate into a minority would be seen as hooliganism and result of corrupt practices.

FAZL MEETS SHEHBAZ:

In a related development, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman called on PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore.

Both leaders held one-on-one as well as delegation level talks on the current political situation, particularly the opposition’s plan to move a no-confidence motion against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Fazl said that he had asked Shehbaz to visit KP and organise public rallies there. To which, Shehbaz responded that he was avoiding long travel due to his chronic back pain.

The two leaders said that the opposition parties were on the same page regarding the anti-government campaign and a joint strategy would be announced after consultation of all allies.
