Maryam says ‘forensic audit’ of scandalous video vindicates Nawaz

–PML-N VP says world powers don’t trust PM Imran so he has to take military leadership with him to Washington

–Says Sharif family, PML-N will not stab people in the back by reaching any deal with establishment

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Saturday lambasted Prime Minister Imran Khan for stealing the people’s mandate, saying even the world doesn’t trust the ‘selected prime minister’ as evident by top military officials accompanying the premier on his US trip.

“The world doesn’t trust the PM so he has to take the military leadership with him to Washington,” she said in a brief talk with the press.

“The entire international community is aware of the fact that he is ‘selected’,” she said while taking a jibe at Imran Khan.

She also rejected the possibility of a deal with powers-that-be for the release of her father Nawaz Sharif, who served as Pakistan’s prime minister thrice.

“We are not in contact with anyone, and Nawaz would not have been in jail if we were open to a deal,” said Maryam.

“People like Imran Khan can fulfill the demands for a deal, but Nawaz and the PML-N can’t stab democracy in the back and break the trust of people,” she said categorically.

On her visit to the court on Thursday, she said “backchannel negotiations” on her father’s predicament, Maryam Nawaz confirmed reports about her meeting with some “quarters”, but clarified that those she had met were not from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Responding to question on whether the admission that the leaked video of a judge wherein he said that he was forced to convict Nawaz was real, she said the video vindicates Nawaz Sharif.

She said it was the first time in the history of the country that a three-time prime minister has been kept in “illegal confinement” in spite of a video that proves his “innocence”.

She called upon the superior judiciary to take notice of Nawaz’s case, citing media reports that claim the video was not edited. She said in the wake of the reports that the video wasn’t edited, her father should be released and the verdict that sent him to jail should be declared “null and void”. She said the judiciary should take action to restore people’s faith in it after the emergence of the said video.
