Shehbaz should confess his ‘corruption and seek forgiveness’: Firdous

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Monday said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and his family should “confess their corruption and seek forgiveness from the nation”.

Her statement comes after an investigative report published by British tabloid Daily Mail accused the opposition leader of stealing and laundering abroad millions from the money given to Pakistan in aid by the United Kingdom (UK).

In a series of tweets on Monday, Firdous claimed that a cheque amounting to Rs80 million, which was issued for earthquake affected, was deposited in the bank account of Shehbaz’s son-in-law, Ali Imran.

She asked that if Shehbaz’s sons and his son-in-law are indeed righteous, why did they “flee” from the country.

She said that following the confession of Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) officer Ikram Naveed, it is better for Shehbaz and his family to “confess their corruption and seek forgiveness from the nation”, adding that the doors to forgiveness are always open.

It is worth noting here that Ikram, while striking a plea bargain with NAB, had confessed to his offence in his affidavit.

Speaking about PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb, Firdous said that she is “constantly telling lies to defend that one lie”.

“The list of black money and TTs [telegraphic transfers] by Shehbaz Sharif and his sons are so long that the spokespersons will soon get tired of defending it,” she concluded.
