Altaf Hussain’s bail extended till September

LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain’s bail has been extended till September pending further inquiries in the case pertaining to hateful speech inciting people to violence.

Reportedly, the MQM founded appeared at the police station on the scheduled date of return but was told to return in the middle of September.

The police said that investigation into the case continues and the politician is being investigated on suspicion of intentionally encouraging or assisting offences contrary to the Section 44 of the Serious Crime Act 2007.

The MQM founder was arrested by the Scotland Yard during a raid on his residence on June 11. He was taken to South London Police Station where he was kept for 36 hours.

In a statement, the police had said that Altaf had been arrested in relation to the alleged hate speech of 2016 in which he had urged his followers in Karachi to take the law into their own hands.
