–Asks why didn’t Arshad Malik tell SC monitoring judge if he was being ‘pressurised’ by PML-N

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) respected the judiciary and that it didn’t try to bribe or intimidate then-accountability judge Arshad Malik, contrary to the claims of made in the affidavit.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the senior PML-N leader said the PML-N did not try to degrade any judge. He said the video was only presented before media after the confirmation by the party.

In the light of the judge’s removal and the leaked video, Abbasi demanded that the cases against Nawaz Sharif be quashed and he should be freed.

It may be mentioned that in the affidavit the judge accused the PML-N leadership of offering him bribes up to Rs500 million in addition to blackmailing and intimidation tactics when he had refused to cave in.

“Why didn’t the judge inform the Supreme Court’s monitoring judge if he had been pressurized,” questioned the PML-N leader. “The matter is now in the Supreme Court,” he said referring to the SC notices to the PML-N leadership for appearance before it on July 16.

The apex court will have to decide the case, he said, adding he was ready to face every case and added that he had never been involved in any wrongdoing.
