Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb on Friday said that there was no legal justification to keep former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in prison after the removal of the accountability judge who convicted the ex-premier in Al-Azizia case over a leaked video.
The government held a press conference after the removal, saying the former PM cannot be acquitted after the judge’s removal and that the PML-N will have to wait for the Islamabad High Court decision in this regard.
Marriyum said that annulling of the verdict against Nawaz must be a direct consequence of the judge’s expulsion, adding the sacking confirmed the fact that the video and its contents were authentic.
The former minister said this recent development means that the entire process of convicting Nawaz was compromised. She said everything PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz said in the press conference “turned out to be true”.
