AVCC nabs gang of ‘kidnappers’ having offshore companies

KARACHI: The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) on Friday busted a five-member gang of kidnappers who were involved in abducting people by impersonating as officials of security forces.

Addressing a press conference, SSP AVCC Fida Hussain said that advanced weapons, fake identity cards and uniforms of security forces as well as other things were seized from the possession of the alleged kidnappers.

He further told that kidnappers used to send money in their accounts abroad before briefly keeping it in an account registered against a fake non-government organisation. They also owned offshore companies, he added.

SSP said that investigation, in this case, started when they abducted a businessman from Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and later released him after payment of Rs20 million. On information provided by businessman, police and intelligence agencies initiated an investigation.

Three kidnappers are in custody of police while raids are being conducted to arrest remaining two, he concluded.
