Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday assured Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani of the government’s support and urged him to hold his ground against the no-confidence vote floated by the opposition parties.
The meeting comes hours after opposition parties named National Party chief Mir Hasil Bizenjo for the post of Senate chairman.
“We will make the no-trust motion against Sanjrani unsuccessful,” the PM was quoted as saying.
According to reports, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Swati and Leader of the House in Senate Shibli Faraz were present in the meeting.
PM Imran also directed PTI senators to reach out to other political parties to foil the opposition’s bid to remove Sanjrani.
Swati and Faraz also briefed the prime minister on the number of senators required to secure Sanjrani from no-trust motion.
