–Police to investigate at least two dozen individuals involved in tyre business
KARACHI: Investigations in the murder of anchorperson Mureed Abbas and his friend Khizar Hayat have commenced with the law enforcement officials compiling a list of people involved in the tyre business, which emerged as the root cause of the crime.
Reports emerged that all stakeholders and investors in business with Atif Zaman were being contacted in reference to the homicide.
It has been decided that over two dozen individuals would be interviewed by the police over the matter, reports claimed.
The questions are reported to be in the context of the business, its inner workings and dynamics, focusing squarely upon its outreach and penetration and profit margins. Details about each individuals investment in the venture may also be sought.
Questions may also demand answers for means and ways the profit was relayed, distributed, divided and decided.
Mureed Abbas, an anchor on a private news channel was murdered under skeptical circumstances along with another on July 9.
Police officials told media that the prime suspect in Mureed Abbas murder case was Atif Zaman who gunned down both the journalist and his friend after calling them at his office in Khayaban-e-Bukhari neighbourhood of Karachi’s DHA area.
“The alleged killer shot himself when a police team arrives in at his residence situated at Khayaban-e-Nishat neighbourhood in DHA area,” officials said.
Sources said that the Atif Zaman was a tyre vendor and had received a severe bullet wound on his chest and is currently being treated at a private hospital.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Sheeraz Nazeer said that the prime suspect is undergoing an operation at the private hospital and his condition is declared critical by the doctors.
While detailing the incident, police officials said that Khizer was the second victim of Atif Zaman’s firing, who was followed and murdered by the alleged killer at a nearer distance of the crime site.
