Two people, including a journalist who worked for Bol News, were shot dead in Karachi’s Defence area on Tuesday night, said police.

According to police, anchorperson Mureed Abbas and his friend Khizar were gunned down over a personal dispute.

The deceased, Mureed, had a monetary dispute with someone, that led to the murder, police said.

Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Executive Director Seemin Jamali confirmed that Abbas had been brought dead to the hospital.

She said that the anchorperson sustained multiple bullet wounds on his chest and abdomen.

Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kaleem Imam took notice of the incident and constituted a team to arrest the killers.

The murder was condemned by the civil society and politicians alike.

In a statement, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said Pakistan was becoming increasingly dangerous for journalists.

She said the government had imposed restrictions on journalists, making them a vulnerable target.
