Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) on Sunday demanded the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take notice of the allegations levelled by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz against an accountability judge who convicted her father.

In a statement, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari urged the top court to hold a public hearing of the case.

“Supreme court must take notice and take up the case for a public hearing to ensure that no one questions freedom of judiciary in the country. This event has urged people to question the credibility of the judiciary.”

He added that Justice (r) Naseem Shah had confessed is “on the record” about the case that saw Bhutto hanged, saying the soul of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is also due to get justice.

In addition, PPP Information Secretary Nafisa Shah termed PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s confession pertaining to the judge video scandal to be eye-opening.

“After the NAB, the accountability courts’ reputation, too, has come into question,” Shah said. “Selected Prime Minister Imran Khan should keep his morale up for the party has just started.
