NICVD patients suffer owing to non-functional elevators

KARACHI: Elevators at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) are not functioning properly, causing grave hardships for cardiac patient and rescue workers to shift patients from ground floor to upper floors.

There are five elevators at NICVD to shift cardiac patients out of them only two are operational while rest three are lying out of order due to some technical problems. The management of NICVD is unable to get these evaluators to repair despite the passage of several weeks.

Shifting of patients from emergency different wards has become very difficult for attendants and volunteers due to non-working elevators.

On the other hand, behavior of elevator operators with patients and their attendants is reportedly aggressive. Patients have also lodged several complaints management of NIVD in this regard.

NICVD Chief Operating Officer Azra Maqsood was not available for comment.
