LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Saturday said the PML-N’s public gathering in Mandi Bahauddin slated for Sunday will go ahead despite all the hurdle and that she would definitely go to the town to address the supporters.

In a statement on social media, she said that she will definitely go to Mandi Bahauddin on Sunday to address the public.

She said the “fake government” was afraid of her, but it faces a real threat from “the power of people” supporting [ousted premier] Nawaz Sharif.

According to reports, the PML-N leader’s husband, Muhammad Safdar Awan, had visited and surveyed the district. “Even if we don’t get permission, we will still hold the rally,” he said during his survey.

“[Imran] Niazi government’s time is up. Maryam will start a protest against the government from Mandi Bahauddin. The July 7 rally is against those who have brought an inflation tsunami,” he added.

Yesterday, Mandi Bahauddin’s deputy commissioner officer (DCO) refused to grant permission of holding a public gathering at Quaid-e-Azam Stadium.

Security reasons were cited for denial of permission and the party was urged to consider another venue for the rally.

Meanwhile, police raided the venue and arrested several workers of the party, who while declining orders of the DCO, were making preparations for a public meeting. Officers also confiscated the chairs.

The PML-N leaders criticised the local administration’s action and announced that the rally would be held as per the already announced schedule on Sunday.

This rally would be Maryam’s second rally in June if held. Earlier on June 12, she had addressed a rally in Zafarwal area of Narowal district.
