HARIPUR: At least four were killed and many went missing after a boat carrying around 50 passengers from Dedal Kamach in Shangla to Haripur capsized in the Indus River at Burg in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.
The search for the missing has been underway. However, the dead bodies recovered so far include a man, a child, and two women.
Haripur Assistant Commissioner Arab Gul told media that almost 14 survivors swam to the bank of the river and who were then provided first-aid.
He further told that the boat was carrying 50 passengers from Shangla’s Dedal Kamach to Haripur when due to high tides it capsized near Indus River at Tarbela, which is situated in Haripur district.
The AC assured that every possible measure is being taken to recover drowned people and locals are also taking part in this operation along with the officials. As per the latest updates, teams of the Pakistan Army’s Special Service Group (SSG) have also been dispatched to the site.
Most of the drowned people belonged to Dedal Kamach.
