Afghan President Ghani holds talks with Punjab governor, CM

LAHORE: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani called on Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar at Governor House in Lahore on Friday.

Matters of mutual interest and cooperation for promotion of peace were discussed during the meeting.

Later in the day, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani offered Juma Prayer at Governor’s House Masjid in Lahore.

Earlier, upon his arrival in the provincial metropolis, Ghani was received by Governor Sarwar and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, who held separate meetings with the Afghan president who is currently on his third visit to Pakistan.

Ashraf Ghani also paid respects on the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal as well as visited the historic Badshahi Mosque.

The Afghan president, who landed in Islamabad yesterday, was invited by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani also held a one-on-one meeting here during which they agreed to open a new chapter of friendship and cooperation between both countries based on mutual trust and harmony for the benefit of their people.

Prior to meeting PM Khan, Ghani met Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and lauded Pakistan’s efforts for the peace process in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, PM Imran reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to bring about a qualitative transformation in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations as part of his vision of a “peaceful neighborhood”.

The two leaders agreed on the importance of crafting a forward-looking vision of Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.
