Prices of essential items rise at govt stores

ISLAMABAD: The utility stores have hiked the price of sugar and over 50 brands of everyday items.

The utility stores have enhanced three rupees on per kilogram of sugar, from existing Rs69 per kilogramme to Rs72.

The utility stores, which provide basic commodities to the general public at a subsidized rate, have increased prices of several general use items.

According to the report, the prices of more than 50 brands of shampoo, soaps, and creams have been enhanced up to Rs20 at utility stores.

The price of a 50-milliliter jar of a face cream has been increased by 10 rupees, from Rs217 to 227, the report said.

Various brands’ soaps prices go up by one to two rupee.

The 400 ml bottle of shampoo has been made 20 rupees expensive than its previous price, from Rs374 to 394, according to the report.

While the price of 200 ml bottle of shampoo has been fixed 10 rupees above then the earlier rate, the report said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan is a state-owned enterprise that operates chain stores across the country to provide basic commodities to the general public at prices lower than the open market because the government subsidizes them.
