KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday granted bail to former provincial information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in Rs5.76 billion corruption case and ordered his name be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).

A two-member bench of SHC heard the bail plea filed by the former minister and granted him the bail. However, it ordered him to submit Rs5 million as a surety bond. The bench also ordered that his name be placed on ECL.

The NAB had apprehended Sharjeel on October 2017 after his bail was rejected by SHC. The NAB in its reference had claimed that Memon along with 12 others committed Rs 5.76 billion corruption in the award of advertisements of the Sindh government’s awareness campaigns in the electronic media.

The accused persons have been blamed for awarding the contracts to their favorite advertising agencies in violation of relevant laws and rules and at exorbitant rates, according to NAB reference.

Memon was arrested by NAB when he returned to Pakistan in March 2017 after ending his two-year-long self-imposed exile.
