A man was sentenced to death under Section 295C on Thursday after he was found guilty of blasphemy by a sessions court in Lahore.

Besides death sentence, the court told him to pay Rs200,000 in fine as well.

Saleem was booked in 2016 for making blasphemous remarks in a public place in the Lohari Gate area.

According to Deputy Prosecutor General Muhammad Amjad, 12 witnesses had recorded testimonies against Saleem: six of them were recorded via videolink due to security concerns.

Half the trial had been conducted in court, and the other half via video link while the accused remained in Camp Jail for security purposes.
