Ehsanullah Ehsan declines membership of National Development Council

(Disclaimer: this is a work of fiction. Learn to take a joke; you’ll live longer.)

Noted public intellectual Ehsanullah Ehsan has declined an invitation by the prime minister to become a member of the upcoming Economic Security Council.

“Though I am flattered to even be thought of, I would like to excuse myself,” Ehsan said, speaking to reporters over the phone from an undisclosed location. “I might not be a good fit there.”

“This is more of [Dr Hafeez] Shaikh’s baby and I don’t want to step on his toes,” he said. “I myself am partial to Neo-Keynesian approaches to the macroeconomy while he’s more of a Neoclassical man.”

“Nothing against the fellow, though,” he said. “Really admire him, in fact. We even played tennis at the club the other day.”

“All the best, though, to Shaikh Sb, the Finance Secretary, the PM and, of course, the Chief.”
