LAHORE: National Assembly Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday appeared before an accountability court in Lahore in the Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme and Ramzan Sugar Mills cases.
Accountability Judge Jawadul Hassan presided over the court proceedings during which Shehbaz was present at the rostrum.
The PML-N president left for London in April to visit his ailing granddaughter and to undergo medical check-up after his name was removed from the no-fly list following an LHC order. Following the medical check-up, doctors advised him not to travel.
During Thursday’s court proceedings, Justice Hassan asked “why Hamza Shehbaz had not been presented in the court”, to which NAB prosecutor Waris Ali Janjua responded that “Hamza was in NAB custody on physical remand [in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case]”.
The corruption watchdog arrested Hamza on Tuesday after the LHC dismissed as withdrawn his bail petitions in two references — pertaining to money laundering, assets beyond means and the Ramzan Sugar Mills.
While adjourning the Ramzan Sugar Mills case, the court ordered the accountability bureau to present Hamza in the next hearing on June 26.
The former Punjab CM was allowed to leave the court after marking his attendance.
Additionally, the court summoned witnesses in the Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme. The case was adjourned till June 29.
